It’s that time of year again! The weather is warming up, the flowers are blooming, and it is time to shake of the dust from winter. We have found that the most difficult of spring cleaning is taking the first step. With so many tasks to accomplish, figuring out where to begin and how to get everything done can make spring cleaning feel like an overwhelming feat. As with anything in life, this is where a solid plan can make all the difference!

A well-planned checklist ensures that no stone will be left unturned. For many, the sweet satisfaction of checking items off a list is reason enough to adopt a checklist.

When Is Spring Cleaning?

Spring begins on March 20, but there is no official day to begin your spring cleaning routine. This can be dependent on many factors and is usually in coordination with weather conditions becoming warmer.

What Is Spring Cleaning?

Spring cleaning is the time-honored tradition of thoroughly cleaning a house come springtime and is a way to wash away the stuffiness, dust, and grime left over from winter. This practice is all about freshening up your home, preparing for warmer days, and getting ready for the increase in social events that usually happen in spring.

Spring Cleaning Checklist:

General:

  • Dust ceiling fans and light fixtures
  • Clean windowsills and window tracks
  • Vacuum or wash curtains and window blinds
  • Clean baseboards
  • Dust corners and out-of-reach areas for cobwebs
  • Test batteries in each smoke detector
  • Disinfect doorknobs, cabinet handles, and light switches

Home Exterior:

  • Wash windows and accompanying shutters
  • Clean skylights
  • Check windows and skylights for signs of cracks of moisture leakage.
  • Check exterior faucets for signs of cold damage
  • Clean organic growth or mineral deposits on exterior walls
  • Clear gutters of debris and any blockages
  • Check roofline for signs of critter damage
  • Check roof for signs of cold weather damage
  • Remove debris and wash roof surfaces
  • Clean and inspect all fireplaces and chimneys
  • Power wash exterior flat surfaces (driveways, sidewalks, and curbs)

Kitchen:

  • Clean out your refrigerator and freezer (shelves may fit in the dishwasher!)
  • Check your fridge filter and replace if needed
  • Clean behind and beneath the refrigerator (especially the coils)
  • Deep clean your microwave
  • Empty the crumb tray in your toaster or toaster oven
  • Deep clean your coffeemaker
  • Clean your oven and give the stovetop a scrub
  • Clear and organize cabinet shelves
  • Clean your garbage disposal
  • Sanitize the sink and clean the inner rim of your sink guard
  • Deep clean your dishwasher
  • Clean chrome fixtures & faucets
  • Clean grease off walls
  • Clean your range hood filter

Bedroom:

  • Wash all pillows
  • Organize drawers and closets
  • Fill a donation bin with clothes you don’t wear anymore
  • Rotate your mattress & clean it
  • Clean curtains
  • Clean your upholstered headboard
  • Wipe down all furniture
  • Wipe down wall décor and decorate accents

Bathroom:

  • Clean your shower head
  • Organize and properly dispose of old medicine and toiletries
  • Scrub the shower and bathtub
  • Scrub the shower curtain liner
  • Scrub & disinfect the toilet
  • Clean your bathroom tile grout
  • Ged rid of bathroom mold

Home Office:

  • Clean debris out of your keyboard
  • Disinfect your computer mouse

Living Room:

  • Clean your couch
  • Clean your area rugs
  • Clean your fireplace
  • Clean your painted walls

Laundry Room:

  • Clean your washer & dryer
  • Clean behind the washer and dryer

Kid Stuff:

  • Clean your stroller
  • Deep clean your kid’s highchair
  • Deep clean lunchboxes
  • Clean play tents and tunnels
  • Disinfect your changing table
  • Clean all plastic toys
